West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences was established on January 2, 1995 by a Legislative Act. Its faculty includes: Veterinary & Animal Science, Dairy Technology and Fisheries. During the centenary celebrations of the Bengal Veterinary College in 1993, a decision was taken to establish an independent Veterinary and Animal Sciences University to fulfil the growing needs of education and research in this field. Accordingly a committee was constituted by the Government of
West Bengal and as per the proposals of the committee the West Bengal University of Animal and Fishery Sciences was established in 1995. Late
Jyoti Basu inaugurated it, the then Hon`ble Chief Minister of West Bengal on 31st May 1995. It is a college recognized by the UGC.
