Mohanur is a ` panchayat town` located in the Namakkal district of the southern state of India, Tamil Nadu. It is located in the southern part of the district and in the south of Namakkal at a distance of 22 km. The Cauvery River flows in the vicinity of the town. It is located in the northeast of Karur at a distance of 17 km. Geographically, the town is located between 11.08° North latitude and 78.17° East longitude resting at an average altitude of 143 metres (469 feet) above mean sea level. The nearest railway station is the Karur Junction Railway Station and the nearest airports are Tiruchirapalli Airport and Salem Airport.
As per the Indian Census report published in 2001 states that Mohanur had a population of 12,468. Males and females comprises of an equal proportion of the population. In Mohanur, 9% of the population is less than six years of age. The average literacy rate of Mohanur is 74%, which is higher than the national average literacy rate, which is 59.5%. To be specific, the male literacy rate is 81% and the female literacy rate is 66%.
A major landmark of the town is the Achchaladheepeswarar Temple.
