A multitude of towns and cities have thronged in the states of Indian subcontinent. The state of Karnataka too houses quite a handful of cities and towns. Amongst several towns Kurgunta needs to be highlighted. Kurgunta is an example of a census town, which is situated in the district of Gulbarga of Karnataka state. It stretches to a distance of eleven kilometers from Nirgunda and also nine km from Adki. Also the old town with various temples , namely, Sedam, is positioned almost seven km away from Kurgunta Gulbarga is 59 km towards north-west. Strategically also this Kurgunta town lies in a significant location. Thus Kurgunta lies approximately between 17.2° N and 77.35° E and it rises to a height of 418 meters or 1371 feet above the mean sea level.

The study on any place is incomplete without getting acquaintance of the demographical status. In this way, quite a number of demographers have conducted surveys, which enable them to depict some points about the demography of this Kurgunta town. Regarding this, one needs to emphasize the importance of the Census report that has been issued forth in the year 2001.

According to this report, the total population of this Kurgunta town has been counted to be 8584. In one delves deep into the report one can even get to know about the status of males, females and also that of children. Thus as per the report the male populace constitutes of 51 percent and female population is 49 percent. It naturally leads one to conclude that number of males in Kurgunta is more than that of females. In Kurgunta, 13 percent of the total population is below six years of age.

It is noted that the average literacy rate of Kurgunta is 51 percent which is even lower than that of the entire nation. Thus the average literacy rate of India has been enumerated to be 59.5 percent. To be specific, male literacy constitutes of 61 percent. Just like the status of population, rate of female literacy too is less than the males. 40 percent is the rate of female literacy.

In the close proximity of Kurgunta, Hyderabad Airport has been situated . Seram Railway Station is the closest ` railhead`. Also the Kurgunta Railway Station lies on Sedam-Tandur route. Thus the Kurgunta is well connected with other places via rails and airports. From the perspective of the entire district more information can be cited. Agriculture is widely practiced. It has been mainly possible due to district`s propensity to irrigational facilities as has been provided by various tanks and river water. Prevalence of black soil is also suitable for carrying on agricultural activities. Main crops like toor, Bajra, sugarcane, groundnut, sunflower, sesame, castor bean, black gram, jowar, wheat, cotton, ragi, linseed and bengal gram, are produced here. Very recently only a handful of industries have produced like cement, textile, leather, chemical.
