In the Kundrathur town of Kancheepurum district of Tamil Nadu , Kundrathur Murugan Temple is the famous pilgrimage.

The entire continent of India houses a multitude of towns and cities that have developed by leaps and bounds. The state of Tamil Nadu is not an exception. In fact Kundrathur is a town that has its location in the district of Kancheepuram of the same Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Kundrathur Murugan TempleThe heritage of this Kundrathur town is quite rich. Kundrathur is situated in middle of Porur, Poonamalee and Pallavaram. The popular saying is that the Lord Subramaniar sat at the hilltop of this Kundrathur. Two other goddesses also are found to accompany Subramaniar here. It is further said that while traveling from Tiruporur to Truttanigai on a holy day Lord Subramaniar rested in this hill. Because Lord Subramaniar set in the direction of north facing Thanigai, the entire place got the name of South Thanigai.

For gaining acquaintance with any town, identifying the demography becomes imperative. Following this usual trend of the country, a multitude of Indian demographers have carried on numerous surveys down these years. This has enabled them to gather certain data that are related to Kundrathur.

The primary attraction of this Kundrathur town is Kundrathur Murugan Temple. This is the only Murugan temple in Tamil Nadu where the deity sits in the northern direction. King Kulothunga Chola - II, had built this temple in Kundrathur. At a time the God can be viewed with one goddess even though other two goddesses namely Valli and Deivanai are present with Him . This is the uniqueness of this temple in Kundrathur town.
