The museums of Gujarat represent the glorious art and culture of that state.

The royal palaces of Gujarat satisfy the purpose of conveying the rich cultural and architectural legacy. The architectures of the museums and different galleries display the culture and heritage of this place. The glimpses of the earlier emperors and their incidents from their lives are cited in the museums of Gujarat.

Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, Vadodara is notable for its architectural magnificence as it is built in the Indo Saracenic fashion of architecture and was once the residence of the Gaekwad family. This museum serves a multipurpose as a museum and as it was the residence of Gaekwad family, it inherits the rich collection of the treasures related to the epoch of Gaekwad period. The museums of Gujarat also occupy collections of the European Art and knick knacks.

Some of the museums were initially the residences of maharajas and even today house most of the valuable personal belongings of the royal personages. These include sculptures, pottery works, metal art and crafts, goods made of ivory, wood, bronze etc. Certain museums serves the purpose of treasure trove of some exquisite and rare collection of antique pieces like the `pichhwais` and `patachitras` that are the distinctive craft of painting on a piece of cloth. Moreover the traditional court fabrics, tents, carpets and costumes and the textile of religious importance are on exhibition.

Certain museums have the collection of Greek and Roman sculpture including the paintings. Not only the Greek and Roman tradition but also the art and craftsmanship of Burma, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, China and Japan are amalgamated to create a fusion of culture. Collection of Indian utensils is of huge display in the museums. Some museums carry memento of the great political heroes of India, their paintings which depicts the incidents of their lives, books of their use and other relative things. Certain museums are themselves the examples of great architecture and dexterity and of immense historical value. The museums of Gujarat comprise Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, Gandhi Museum and Gandhi Smarak Sangrahalaya which attract the tourist at a large number.
