Mumbai in Kendriya Vidyalaya Antop Hill, Sion and Holy Cross High School Thane. She is married to the film-maker Goldie Behl. They`ve been married since 2002 and had a son Ranvir in 2005.

Sonali started out her career as a model before she was selected for the `Star Dust Talent Search`. She made her debut on the silver screen with the moderately hit Bollywood flick Aag paired opposite the very popular Hindi film actor

Shilpa Shetty. Following that she was critically acclaimed for her performances in Duplicate, Zakhm, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Dil Hi Dil Main, Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai, Bombay, Bhai, Sarfarosh, Humse Badkar Kaun, Love You Hamesha, Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Dahek: A Burning Passion, Jis Des Mein Ganga Rehta Hain and many more.
