In Hinduism, Atharvan is described as a legendary Vedic sage or rishi.

In Hinduism, Atharvan is described as a legendary Vedic sage or rishi. He along with Angiras have authored (heard) the `Atharvaveda`. He is also believed to have instituted the fire sacrifice or `yagna` for the first time. He is also sometimes reckoned with the seven seers or `Saptarishi`. His clan is known as `Atharvanas`.
