Archaeological Museum was established in the year 1984 to preserve the archaeological elements recovered from nearby areas. It is located near Gwalior fort. In the British period the buildings of the museum were the Hospital and Jail. The museums contains sculpture, inscriptions, copper plates, inscribed seals, stone pillars and capitals, sati stones, metal images, terracotta and coins collected from the adjoining areas.
The sculptures of Shaiva, Vaishnava, Jaina, Asthadikpalas, Surasundaris, Dancers, Vidhyadharas and Mithuna figures are worth to mention. Sculptures of Sunga and Kushana period like Balarama, Kartikeya and Lakulisa are also preserved in the museum. The visiting time of the museum is from 10 am to 5 pm. The museum remains closed on Fridays.
