Mamit, Mizoram

Mamit is a ` census town` situated in the Mamit district of the northeastern state of India, Mizoram. It is the seat of administration of Mamit District. This beautiful town located in the lap of the hills rests at an altitude of 718 metres (2355 feet) above mean sea level. Mamit is 30 km northwest of Aizawl. The nearest `access points` are the airport at Imphal and the Silchar Railway Station.

Detailed information about Mamit is put out in the Indian Census report of 2001. According to it, Mamit had a population of 5261. Males` account for 54% of the population and females comprises of 46% of the population. In Mamit, 15% of the population is less than six years of age. Mamit has an average literacy rate of 82%, which is higher than the national average literacy rate that is 59.5%. To be specific, the male literacy rate is 81% and the female literacy rate is 83%.
