Located in the Toothukudi district of the state of Tamil Nadu Kayalpattinam is the name of a panchayat town .

In the vast continent of India various towns and places have developed over the years. In the state of Tamil Nadu also one finds no paucity of towns as well. Amongst several towns, one can easily make out Kayalpattinam to be quite significant. Kayalpattinam is a `panchayat town`. It is located in the district of Toothukudi of Tamil Nadu.

The strategic location of Kayalpattinam is also quite significant. Kayalpattinam is situated approximately at 8.57° N 78.12° E. It has an average height of 6 metres or 19 feet.

Without knowing the demography it becomes impossible to gain knowledge about any place completely. For that reason, several demographers have inferred several important information about the place. In this regard the Census report that has been published in the year 2001 is quite significant. According to this report the total population of Kayalpattinam has been counted to be 32,672. If one goes into the details one can also deciphered the status of males, females and also children on individual basis. It needs to be mentioned that the population of females in Kayalpattinam is more than that of the males . Thus the population of males constitutes of 46 percent, while the female populace comprises of 54 percent. In Kayalpattinam, children below six years comprises of 13 percent of the total population.

As has been rightly pointed out by the experts the literacy condition indicates whether a place is developed or not. In this regard it can be said that the average literacy rate of Kayalpattinam is higher than that of the whole nation. To be specific, rate of female literacy constitutes of 78 percent while male literacy rate is 80 percent.

Being a part of the Toothukudi district it is evident that the people of Kayalpattinam too are going to follow the tradition. In fact it is famous for its resource of pearls. Industrial growth of the district has occurred with the flourishing of several industries like chemicals, seafood, flowers, textiles etc.

In the heartland of the district, one finds several tourists places, which have drawn the admiration of lots of tourists. Korkai Port and several other places are some of them.
