Tiruvanniyur temple is a small temple. Legend states that Agni worshipped Shiva here. Tiruvanniyur is the 62nd in the series of Tevara Stalams located south of the river Kaveri.
Legends: Agni - (the Lord of Fire) worshipped Shiva here as an act of penance for having participated in the Daksha Yagnam. It is believed that Katyayani - Parvati worshipped Shiva before their divine marriage. This temple was originally built during the Chola period. Arudra Darisanam and Maasi Magam is celebrated in grandeur each year here.
