The Indo Iranian language group is a subdivision of the Indo-European family of languages. The Indo-Iranian languages are also referred as the Aryan language. It constitutes of four language groups Indo Aryan, Iranian, Nuristani and Dardic. The modern Indo- Iranian language group forms the largest subdivision of the Indo European family with more than one billion speakers. The Indo Iranian language belt stretches from Europe (Romani) and the Caucasus (Ossetian) to East India, which includes Bengali and Assamese. In simple terms, the language is spoken in central and south -central Asia. According to a study conducted by SIL International in 2005, Indo-Iranian language family consists of 308 varieties of languages. The prominent once are Hindustani, Bengali, Punjabi, Marathi and Persian, Gujarati, Pashto, Oriya, Kurdish and Sindhi. The Indo-Iranian language is largely spoken in Iran, Afghanistan, some former Soviet republics, some areas of Iraq and Turkey, Pakistan, India and also in Bangladesh.
