Indira Gandhi International Airport is an important domestic and international airport in India named after former
Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. It was earlier known as the Palam Airport . With the inauguration of Terminal 2, the international terminal Terminal 1 was designated for the domestic operations.
The airport has a separate Technical Area for the use of VVIP movements and two non- parallel runways. This Airport is undergoing a modernization drive. The contracts for modernisation has been given to Fraport, Airport Authority of India, Eraman Malayasia and GMR Infra. The old terminals that is Terminal IA and 2 have been refurbished with amenities like latest security equiments departure area, new washrooms and many other facilities.

A new Terminal will also be constructed which will be called Terminal 3. It will be a two tier building with the bottom being reserved as the arrival areas and the top meant for departures. Initially, this terminal will fulfill the needs of both domestic and international passengers. Later, in the second phase of construction a new terminal will be constructed which will be meant only for international flights.The terminal will come in place of the old terminals, already existing at the Airport. The Terminal will have many modern amenities. There will be 130 check in counters, 55 aerobridges, 30 parking bays, 72 immigration counters, 15 X-ray screening areas. A new runway will be constructed which will be more than 4400 meters to cater more than 75 plus flights an hour. An aeropolises is also being planned which will include restaurants, hotels, malls and temples. The Terminal 3 will be completed by 2010. The airport also has a Terminal exclusively meant for annual Islamic pilgrimage for Hajj known as the Hajj Terminal.
There were carriers who have now suspended their operations from the Airport they are Air Canada, United Airlines, Delta Airlines, Paramount Airways, Qantas, Swissair and Eurofly. New Airline services which will operate from the Airport are Swiss International Airlines, Kenya Airways, Air Blue, Syrian Arab Airlines and many more.
The caterers of the Indira Gandhi International Airport are Chef Air, Taj Sats, Oberoi Flight Services. The Fuel providers are Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Indian Oil Corporation. The ground handlers are Air India Corporation, Indian , Airworks India,Cambata Aviation and Concord Aviation Private Limited.
