The panchayat town, Hirekerur, is situated in the Haveri district of the state of Karnataka.

Multitudes of towns and cities have developed in each and every state of Indian subcontinent . The state of Karnataka too is not an exception in this matter . In fact in the heartland of the state , a number of places have grown by leaps and bounds. Amongst these , one can easily point out the name of Hirekerur as a significant place. To be specific, Hirekapur is a `panchayat town; that is located in the district of Haveri of the same state. The etymological significant of the Hirekerur too is well accepted. The name signifies "Hire" meaning `big`, "Keri" stands for pond or lake, Ur represents `village". Even there are many people who use to pronounce the word Hirekerur as Hee ray kay roor.

The strategic location of the Hirekerur town is worth mentioning. The Hirekerur has been situated at 14.47° N 75.38° E. Also the town of Hirekerur has got an average height, which has been measured to be 619 meters or 2030 feet.

In order to know the actual status of the demography of any place or city, it becomes imperative for any person to identify the true demographical scenario of it as a whole. It has been found out that the average literacy rate of India is 59.5 percent. Out of the total population, the rate of the male literacy is 76 percent , while the female literacy rate has been measured to be 66 percent .

The identification of the Hirekerur town too can be inferred from the modes of religion, entertainment etc, that the locales follow. The Hirekerur houses the renowned

Durga Devi temple. It is located just near a lake in Hirekerur town. As far as the amusement of the people of Hirekerur town is concerned, the people always flows with the mood of getting enchanted by all the cultural profundity. Hirekerur has got four new theaters surrounding it.

With the initiative of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus service has been started. However Hirekerur is still not linked by air or rail.
