Heggadadevanakote is a panchayat town that lies in the district of Mysore of the state of Karnataka.

Quite a number of towns and places have developed in the whole of Indian subcontinent. The state of Karnataka too houses quite a number of them . Heggadadevanakote stands apart from the rest. It is a `panchayat town` and it is located in the Mysore district of the same state.

The strategic location of Heggadadevanakote can be known from the survey of some of the experts. According to them, Heggadadevanakote is located approximately at 12°5`23"N , 76°19`47"E.

There are many demographers who have thrown some light on the demographical scenario of Heggadadevanakote. According to the Census report that came out in the year 2001 , the total population of Heggadadevanakote has been enumerated to be 12,043. Out of the total population , males comprise of 51 percent while the population of females has been counted to be 49 percent. In Heggadadevanakote, 12 percent of the population is below six years of age.

Literacy rate of Heggadadevanakote too can be known from this census report as well. Interestingly the average literacy rate of Heggadadevanakote is 66 percent which is even higher than that of the nation . Average literacy rate of India is 59.5 percent. To be specific , literacy is 72 only , while the rate of female literacy of Heggadadevanakote is 60%.

Since Heggadadevanakote is a part of the Mysore district, it is quite natural that it follows the trend and tradition of the whole district. Instances can be cited. In order to meet the demands of day to day living, it is only natural that cultivation is the major occupation of the people. Cotton, grams, groundnut, jowar, maize, ragi, rice, sugarcane, sunflower and tur are few of the crops that are grown in several places of the region. Few industries too have developed in the region. Amongst the favorite spots of the Mysore district , Bettadapura, Hedathali, Kapadi, Mudukuthore Betta, Mugur, T Narsipur and Nanjangud deserve mentioning.
