Viren Rasquinha

We want to beat the opposition, we are not happy with a draw anymore. Today, other teams are looking at this Indian team with a lot of respect and fear" Viren Wilfred Rasquinha was born on September 13 in the year 1980. Viren Wilfred Rasquinha is from Mumbai and is the captain of India`s national field hockey team.

This midfielder in May in the year of 2002, made his international senior debut at a Four Nation Tournament held in Adelaide. He completed his school level education from the St. Stanislaus High School. After that he joined MMK college major in commerce and economics and secured the 1st class in the graduation in the year 2001. Viren started playing hockey from his school days. He has made his debut with the Junior Indian hockey Team in the year of 1999. the first major title won by him was "The Junior World Cup" in the year 2001 at Australia.

Merlyn Rasquinha, mother of Viren is a doctor by profession of Municipal corporation and his father Eric Rasquinha served for Firestone, later known as Modistone Tyres. After retirement his father through community service in Bandra Church, spends his time. Vinod and Pravin are two brothers of Viren, who both are engineers and keen aports fans. As a Grade A Officer, Viren presently serves for the Indian Oil Corporation in HR Department. He serves the post of IOC since March 2002. as he is posted in Delhi so that he spends most of his time there. When he was asked about his role models in life, he said, " My parents have really encouraged and supported me all the way and I really owe all my success to them".
