Surinder Singh Sodhi, the field hockey player hails from India who has participated at the 1980 Olympics held at Moscow. At the tournament India won the gold medal. He was selected for the highest sports award in India, the Arjuna Award. For the first time, India participated in the second edition of the Champions Trophy and India ended up 5th among 7 participating countries. In the team Surinder Singh Sodhi was also included along with other members Allen Schofield, Arvind Chhabra, Surjit Singh, Davinder Singh, Dung Dung, Ravinder Pal Singh, Ajitpal Singh, V Bhaskaran, Gurmail Singh, VJ Philips, Charanjit Kumar, Sukhbir Singh Grewal, Zafar Iqbal, Mohammad Shahid and Mervyn Fernandes. As the captain of the Indian National team Surinder Singh Sodhi participated at the Champions Trophy held at Amsterdam where India finished 3rd that happened to be India`s best ever performance so far.
