Leo Pinto, perhaps the oldest living hockey Olympian, is a Goan.

Leo PintoLeo Pinto was born on April 11, 1914. He was a field hockey goalkeeper and hails from India. At the 1948 Summer Olympics held in London, Leo Pinto won the golden medal along with the Men`s National Team. At the age of thirteen, Leo Pinto`s hockey career started in Mumbai. At that time he was playing for the Byculla Rovers.

He also represented his team the Byculla Rovers at the Aga Khan Hockey Tournament took place in the year 1927. He went on to participate in a row in 27 Aga Khan tournaments. Even while he was a player, Leo pinto, a Goan from Mapusa, was made manager of the Tata Sports Club hockey team. At the 1972 Summer Olympics, he was one of the coaches of the Indian team. At that Olympics India ended up with the bronze. He served as the selector of Indian Team for the world cup for the year 1975. He is the product of Tata Sports Club.

This former goalkeeper, 93 year old the gold medal winning Indian team member showed his reaction from his kolkata`s residence after the victory of Asia Cup, which was won by India at Chennai. He showed his accord with the Joaquim Carvalho, the coach of the present Indian Team that hockey is not getting its due recognition and reward. Pinto said, "It was through hockey that India first came to be recognized in the world of Sport. Why this kind of poor treatment?This is not fair. All sporting achievements should be treated on a par"
